Japanese shrines and temples can offer a number of attractions. From hints to a different belief system, culture, architecture etc, but also on a practical level, the grounds of temples usually offer some refuge from the summer heat, in the form of shade from trees on the grounds. There are many such temples and shrines here in Matsue to be discovered, particularly in the town district of ‘tera-machi’, lit. temple-townland. Pictured is Mefu shrine, located approx 10 minutes from Matsue JR Station (north shore of Shin-Ohashi Bridge). So why not explore Japanese culture through its shrine, while taking every chance you can to keep cool at the same time!
